Back to Basics at Home Retreat

Hello! When was the last time you put yourself first, taking the time to nourish and nurture yourself with sleep, good food and exercise? Take an honest look at your habits and motivate yourself to adopt some healthy ones! I want to help you move from feeling tired and exhausted to becoming an unstoppable force. You can do this by creating your personalised retreat.

When I used to work in the corporate world, I never managed to get my basics straight. There never seemed to be enough time to take care of myself; there was always something more important to do – a deadline, a meeting, an event. It was challenging to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Both my mental and physical health suffered. I didn't take the time to consider the whole concept of who and what I am. I never made enough time to nurture my soul, purpose, abundance or environment. Going back to the basics helped me get back on track. It helped me be in charge of my life and my destiny. I am confident it can do the same for you!

In this blog, I will share why it is essential to get back to the basics & how a personalised retreat can make you feel revitalised, renewed and invigorated.

You will be the one creating your retreat. You read that right! It's what I call back-to-basics retreat, and the only person who is allowed to RSVP is you! You will be the event planner, organiser, host and VIP guest of your personalised event. Stick with me – you are in for a delightful adventure.

Why it's essential to hold a BTB Retreat?

Basics during our childhood

Do you remember being a kid and how annoying it was to do what your parents were telling you? "Go to bed – it's past your bedtime", "finish your food", "why are you not eating"; we'd much rather keep on playing, but our parents didn't allow us to do that.. and for apparent reasons – our health! They knew that we need to have the basics right to grow and be healthy – good food, sleep, exercise, and hydration. They created a healthy routine for us and tried to make us follow it(as complex as we made it on them). All that hard work, our parents did, goes on the back seat as we grow up. Everything else is more important to us, like going to university or getting that promotion or going to that party. The problem is, we keep on going like that, and most of us don't even realise what it means for our health and life.

The stats – chronic disease

According to World Health Organisation statistics, chronic diseases account for 71% of all deaths globally. Those chronic diseases result from "genetic, physiological, environmental and behavioural factors". By taking a proactive approach to our health, we can significantly reduce chronic diseases and improve wellbeing, happiness, and satisfaction with life. What better reason to start your Back-to-Basics retreat than living a long, healthy and happy life?

By being intentional in your day and fitting in what is truly important like meditation, good sleep, healthy food, hydration and exercise, you can improve your health and wellbeing. Making it all part of your lifestyle is key to creating habits that help you maintain your wellbeing. However, it is good to start these habits when you are not under pressure. Creating a Back-to-Basics retreat can be the best way you can do that. And hey, it is a great way to celebrate yourself!

Celebrate Yourself

Who doesn't love an event for themselves? A birthday, a wedding, graduation, you name it! We all love these big days, so why do we limit ourselves to just a few times a year? I've often said we should celebrate half birthdays too – in that way we get to celebrate ourselves twice a year. We work so hard to achieve, so let's create a new event to celebrate, treat and pamper ourselves; we deserve it. You can do this through the Back-to-Basics retreat. Creating a retreat for yourself can be fun and stimulating. It can be the best celebration of your year – since you are in control over every aspect and can determine what's best for you. It can be all things you ever dreamed of, without any compromises.

Your reset button

Apart from the excitement, the Back-to-Basics Retreat will be the event that will give you a good starting point, the reset button you need to begin fresh. From that point onward, you will be able to take better care of yourself, make healthier choices and stick with them. The benefit you will experience from pampering, nourishing and nurturing yourself for even a couple of days will be the motivator you need to keep going even after the retreat. Even a week or a weekend can give you enough time and energy to set up the basics and a pattern that you can implement long term. Long-term practice will lead to many health benefits and overall enhanced wellbeing. The more we take care of ourselves, the happier we will be, which is perfect for us and everyone else around us!

So how can you design and create your personalised Back To Basic Retreat?

Step 1

With any event, you need the date and the venue. These are totally up to you, and you can be as creative as you want. It could be your home, your room or if you're going to be more extravagant, a lovely flat for a weekend. Once we have decided on your venue, you need to think about the duration; how long will your retreat last? Is it an evening after work, a weekend, or even the whole week just for yourself?

Go ahead and note the date/s and put it in your calendar. You have accomplished step one to planning your BTB Retreat.

Step 2

After you've determined your venue and how long your retreat will last, make a personalised calendar of activities and events that suit you and where you want to be in the future. Get creative and start designing your retreat. Assign slots for all the things you want to do. First, I recommend deciding when you sleep, wake up, and eat. Good sleep and nourishment are critical healthy goals. After choosing the timings for these, you have room to play with all the other activities you'd like to do.

You can download a spreadsheet to help schedule your retreat. I have also added some example activities to empower and nurture each of your Six wonders to get you started.

You dream it, plan it and enjoy it.

So what are you waiting for? Go to your calendar, book some time for yourself, download that spreadsheet, and get inspired.

I'd love to hear how your BTB retreat went and how it helped you start a new healthy lifestyle or habit!
